A crazy thing happened this summer, all from a single conversation.
I was working with a client (Andrew Abaria - check him out here!) and we were chatting about combining personal life goals with work. We discussed that as creatives, and also entrepreneurs, most of the time we can not separate our lifestyle from our craft and/or our craft from our lifestyle. They are very much one in the same.
From this concept, I decided to combine two of my passions, traveling and hand lettering. I have been teaching hand lettering classes in the York, PA region for a little over a year. People really enjoy the classes, so I thought, "Why not put it out there to see if I could host classes in cities around the US?"
It just so happens that people LOVE learning something new. I've been to the greater Memphis, TN region, Tallahassee, Florida and Thomasville, Georgia all with sold-out workshops!
In September I am headed to Rochester, NY to teach a class; Later in November I am headed back to Tallahassee and Thomasville, and there is interest growing for me to host classes in Winston-Salem, as well as Charlotte, NC. I couldn't be more excited!
Needless to say, I'm now a traveling hand-letterer and I am working to book additional workshops. It combines my love of traveling and exploring new cities/areas with the passion and love that I have for hand lettering.
Sometimes we see a potential path, but the details remain murky. What I have learned this summer is that you need to simply go for it, whatever it may be. Success or failure aside, working out one of these paths in life equates to satisfaction. A quote that hung in my family home growing up that now hangs in my design studio by Ralph Waldo Emerson is "We find in life exactly what we put into it." and it could not ring more true.
