Today is Kyle's birthday. For any of you who don't know, Kyle, is one of my most dear friends. When I think of Kyle and the span of our friendship over the past 12 or so years the one word that characterizes and sticks out to me about Kyle is loyal.
Since the beginning of our friendship Kyle has been more loyal to me than many people are to anyone or thing in their lives. I know I am not the only one who would define Kyle this way. Loyalty is something Kyle is rooted in.
So as for today, a day to celebrate him and his birthday here are a few of the best memories I have with and of Kyle.
There were MANY scenarios in high school that Kyle was there to talk to, figure out life with and just hang out but on my 18th birthday, our senior year of high school Kyle gave me a sketchbook. It might not seem like that big of a deal but every class I had taken and every subject I had pursued in high school (except for Studio in Art in 9th grade) had nothing to do with what I decided to major in at college. That sketchbook was a symbol of support. He believed that I could excel at college as I went to study graphic design. Here are a few pictures of us through high school. :)
Thankfully we got to sit next to each other at graduation and "keep quite and not cause any trouble." :-D
On the day I married Mike, Kyle stood on my side. There was no doubt in my mind that Kyle would be in my wedding as we went through college and started our careers, but Kyle was really selfless when it came to our wedding. The night before he had graduated from Penn State and our wedding was the next day at noon. He was selfless enough to make sure he was there on time, had a huge smile on his face and was again, there as he supported me as Mike and I got married.
Over the years since high school and college, even though Kyle lives in California and I live in PA, we have always done our best to try and see each other at least once a year, if not more. Typically we see each other at Christmas time and his parent are always gracious enough to let me stay at their home. I have had the opportunity to visit him a couple times on the west coast as well. Once for his graduation from law school and another time just to visit. Each time we see each other there is an ease of friendship and having fun together that never goes away.
Recently as I have been making my way as an independent graphic designer and photographer, Kyle has been so supportive. From sending me articles about being an entrepreneur, to setting my pricing, to sending me the best Snapchats to help me through my day, his support has been something that some days gets me through.
Needless to say I am grateful for him, his friendship, loyalty and humor. I am a better person because he is my friend. Happy Birthday Kyle! I hope you have an amazing day and an even better year.
Love, Q
