Where to begin writing this post!? It will be best explained in points...
- Julie and I have known each other since 1st grade. When you know someone for that long there is a sense of familiarity. A sense of belonging and "home" - it had been years since Julie and I had been able to spend quality time together, so when the opportunity arose for me to visit her in Hong Kong, I jumped at it. Not only was I going to be able to visit with a friend who has known me almost my entire life, I was going to see a glimpse into her life in Hong Kong.
- Julie has always been a person I have admired. We played soccer together, we grew up together, we were in many of the same classes all through high school together, and in each of those circumstances, Julie has demonstrated good character and kindness.
- In some instances, the world can be incredibly small. Bo and I have a mutual friend from Texas named Drew. Bo and I had no clue we shared a mutual friend until Bo and Julie met in Hong Kong, Julie visited Texas and she met our mutual friend, Drew. Needless to say, it is a funny story and the extended version is a blog post in and of itself.
- And lastly, my trip to Hong Kong and spending time with Bo and Julie helped my heart. There is no denying that 2015 was a year of unexpected twists and turns and I came out of it rather guarded. The time I spent with Jules: laughing, chatting, exploring and as I watched the love that she shares with Bo, and that Bo has for her, I was reminded that having an open heart is undeniably a beautiful thing. I feel fortunate I was able to spend time with Julie as "an adult" (if you can even call us that). Better yet, it was refreshing seeing Julie and Bo interact, to see that they are the "same type of weird" together.
With all that being said, Julie, Bo and I spent two sessions over a couple of days taking engagement photos. Hong Kong is a magical wonderland of many beautiful backdrops and it was one of the best experiences of my career to capture two of my friends, Julie and Bo, their love, all in the city in which they found it.
